Recognition (4AFC)

The recognition task used in Experiment S1 (with orthography). Participants must select which of four written pseudowords was the name of the object in the story (optional auditory presentation). Answer options included:

  • The correct pseudoword for the referent
  • A phonological foil for the learned pseudoword, otherwise correct for the referent
  • Another learned pseudoword (incorrect for reference)
  • A phonological foil for the incorrect option

Stem completion (typed version)

The stem completion task used in Experiment S1 (with orthography). Participants see and hear the start of each pseudoword, and must type the corresponding pseudoword presented in the story.
